Greetings
Here are some developments after doing some research, looking at your online survey returns and meeting with the small group of people who help keep the club going: Jo, Colin, Dale and Peter Beardsley. CLUB VENUE AND PERFORMANCES 1. The next meeting of the Ukulele Club will take place on 17 July in the Bandstand room at the BREWERY TAP (1 Derwent Street, Derby. http://www.derbybrewing.co.uk/home_121_3_63.html/home_121_3_63.html). If we like it, we can meet there every other Wednesday as normal. This of course means that those of you who travel by car will have to find parking in the city centre. One (possible) free option is the car park of Bennetts. The entrance to the car park is on full street and the store, but not the car park, is closed before uke club time. It's not far to the Brewery Tap from there. 2. We had an offer of a room at the Quad in Derby for Monday nights but we decided to keep the club night on Wednesday. However, the Quad made an interesting offer for us to play for half an hour once a month in their bar/cafe area. I think this would be a good opportunity to promote the club and also get the club advertised in the Quad brochure every month. They suggested we play from 6.30 until 7.00 on one of the club nights. Please email me ASAP if you would like to take part in this to start on 14th August. I think we could make it work if five or more people did it. UKULELE BIKE RIDE AND PICNIC On Sunday 21st July we will have a bike ride to Elvaston Castle with ukuleles, chord sheets and our own individual picnic food. We will find a nice spot and play our ukuleles for a while and have our picnic. We'll meet at The Alexandra Hotel, 203 Siddals Rd, Derby, DE1 2QE at 12.30. There is parking in the streets around there. We'll cycle along the river Derwent to Elvaston Castle (http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/leisure/countryside/countryside_sites/country_parks/elvaston/default.asp?VD=elvaston) If you don't want to cycle, then drive to Elvaston Castle and meet us in the courtyard at 13.30 Best wishes Steve Williams |
